- SCS Gears are made from aircraft steel for maximum strength. Each gear has a shaved finish to minimize backlash and run out, and is broached for a proper 10 spline shaft fit. The SCS Extra 5 step heat treating process yields maximum gear life for high stress applications. Gears have a black oxide finish, and the faces have been lightened to reduce rotating weight without sacrificing strength.
- NOTE: On short tracks such as 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2 Mile, the larger gear is most commonly used on top.
- EXAMPLE: If you have a 4:11 ring and pinion and you install a #4 gear set with the big gear on top you will have a 5:31 ratio.
- High designation on chart means higher numerical number, but lower gear ratio
- Low designation on chart means lower numerical number, but higher gear ratio.
